It is with great sadness that the Humanitarians of Florida, Inc., are announcing the closing of our cat rescue Harden Haven on August 31, 2015. The reason is liability insurance. Our general liability for customer injury is not the issue. The problem is the adoption and rescue liability. Our underwriter will no longer provide liability insurance for the rescue and adoption center. It is a very unusual problem, we own 4 different properties and cannot find adequate liability insurance to fit all of our needs.
The only options we have are to close or reinvent the Haven. The Haven could apply for its own TIN number, Right to solicit funds, Incorporate, and file to become a 501c3. This would make the Haven its own entity. The property would have to be sold to the Haven. It would no longer be under the umbrella of the Humanitarians. The cost would be about $1,000.00 and the process would take about 8 months.
If another 501c3 group is interested in running a cat rescue they can contact the Humanitarians of Florida.
We will be adopting out until August 31,2015. The adoption fee is $15 for adults and $25. For kittens.
