After each round of dealing, a player’s turn to bet passes to the next player. In most poker games, this is done in a single round. When a betting interval is finished, all of the bets are gathered into a pot. The next round of betting begins with the next player to the left of the previous player.
At the start of the next betting interval, a player who has been inactive for the previous round is considered the active player. He or she places the same number of chips into the pot as the amount contributed by the previous bettor. During the next betting interval, a player who wishes to raise must place more chips into the pot than the previous bettor.

Most modern versions of the game involve a forced bet. A forced bet is when a player has to make a bet in order to participate in the game. Typically, a player must bet the minimum amount in the first betting interval before raising. The player then raises or matches the previous bet in later betting intervals.
If a player has a three-card brag, he or she can raise or fold if he or she does not believe that the other players are bluffing. Alternatively, the player can “stand pat,” which means that he or she will not enter the pot.
